Project description

The city of Larnaka has an urban population of 86.700 people and has three main transport infrastructure elements of Cyprus, the largest international airport of the island, the port and the marina of Larnaka.

The port and marina of Larnaka are located only 3.5 km from the international airport. The main strategic objective for the development of Cyprus port infrastructure is to enhance the competitiveness and effectiveness, to meet modern needs for mobility of passengers and goods.

The Ministry of Communications and Works of Cyprus published a tender for the redevelopment of the port and marina waterfront in 2005. The main aim was to create a Public Private Partnership for this project, so the tender also included the concession of the port management for 35 years.

The contract concession was finally made in 2012. The project is structured in different work phases. The port and marina redevelopment will include around 1000 berths, mixed land uses as housing, restaurants, shops, facilities, hotel, green and open spaces, etc.

The area has three main users: cruise operators, tourists and residents. The new spaces and buildings aim to meet all their needs, in order to become an iconic and attractive point for both, locals and visitors.
