Local authorities in the Mediterranean area are increasingly promoting local sustainable energy transition strategies, and most of them are small municipalities with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants. Usually, these small municipalities do not have specialist staff to carry out proper assessment and planning processes when preparing the SECAPs or other local climate policy instruments. It makes it difficult for small authorities to plan and deploy local sustainable energy transition strategies co-designed with local stakeholders. Such difficulty becomes even more relevant in the current circumstances: high energy costs for companies and households, an increase in energy poverty, and a climate emergency. The sustainable energy transition plays a crucial role in addressing such challenges, and many dispersed efforts have been made to produce tools to support local authorities in the drafting of their local sustainable energy transition strategies. But the lack of integration of the outputs is clearly a shortcoming.
Transitioning to sustainable energy requires concrete strategies and the right tools. Co-funded by the Interreg Euro-MED programme, LOGREENER brings together expertise from multiple projects to support efficient development planning and implementation of sustainable energy solutions through the creation of a toolkit for local energy transition planning.
The Toolkit for the local energy transition planning developed by LOGREENER is a user-friendly online platform that guides you step-by-step an efficient bottom-up development planning process, offering practical tools and guidance on sustainable energy planning, including resources for RES scenario modelling and green fiscal policy models. It consists of 6 categories of tools:
Suppose you are a policy maker, development planner, municipality’s technical staff, or any other stakeholder involved in local and regional green transition planning. In that case, the LOGREENER toolkit can support you in your work to achieve the energy transition.
