DESCRIPTION

This manual has been developed in the framework of the “END FGM Cooperation, synergies and structured dialogue among civil society and EU institutions to address female genital mutilation as a development issue” project, which involved 4 partner organisations including AIDOS (Italy), FORWARD (UK), MIGS (Cyprus) and APF (Portugal).

The core learning objectives of the manual are the following:

  • Increase understanding of the cultural environment and the reasons behind FGM as a social norm;
  • Improve understanding of FGM as a gender and development issue;
  • Develop participants´ skills and capacities to adopt strategies, tools and approaches to address FGM in development projects and programmes

The main target group of this manual is composed of the members of the END FGM European Network, who will conduct trainings on addressing FGM in development projects and programmes targeting NGOs, CSOs, NSAs, LAs, IOS and their respective programme officers working in the areas of sexual and reproductive health and women’s rights, among others.

The manual forms itself in three independent modules, including each learning objectives, theory, groups activities and for some case studies to sensitize on the theme:

  • Module 1: Understanding FGM
  • Module 2: FGM as a gender issue
  • Module 3: FGM as a development issue

RELEVANCE

The manual here presented has the main objective of sensitising readers and participants on the FGM subject, and this by theoretical and historical explanations, supported by group activities to go deeper in the subject
