REBUILDING COMMUNITIES THROUGH PUBLIC SPACE INTERVENTIONS
Creating safe and engaging environmental spaces for children to play with and meet their peers is essential for all communities. In stable communities, such spaces help reduce children’s excessive reliance on technology, which can have negative social impacts, and encourage them to interact with others their age in green, child-friendly environments.
The guide discusses the importance of having cities where children feel safe and welcomed. It emphasizes that even small interventions can help change attitudes and raise awareness among stakeholders about the importance of making cities more child-friendly. Sometimes interventions are implemented in existing spaces to make them more suitable for children and can be very simple, such as removing obstacles that prevent them from playing. This guide helps establish an intervention methodology aimed at achieving the best possible participatory outcome based on needs and available resources.
