DESCRIPTION

The EU Green Public Procurement (GPP) Criteria and Requirements are a set of voluntary environmental criteria developed by the European Commission that public authorities can integrate into public procurement procedures for goods, services and works to reduce environmental impacts throughout the life cycle of the procured items. These criteria are designed to be clear, verifiable and justifiable, allow contracting authorities to set technical specifications and award criteria that favour environmentally preferable options, and encourage the uptake of sustainable products and services across multiple sectors.

The criteria are grouped by product/sector categories (such as ICT equipment, electricity, food catering services, furniture, fleet/transport, etc.) and are accompanied by technical background reports produced by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC). They also interface with other environmental instruments such as the EU Ecolabel for verification and market guidance.
