The SUMP of Durrës will pursue the main following objectives: ensure an accessible transport system based on a non-discriminatory basis available for all citizens, a reduction in the number of accidents by improving security in all transport modes, diminish air pollution and improve the transport productivity and effectiveness. Remarkably, this will be the first SUMP adopted in Albania!

In Thesprotia, the measure seeks to develop a plan in order to extend the sustainable mobility plan of Igoumentisa to a regional scope, reaching out to also the neighbouring municipalities of Filiates and Souli, Taking into consideration the SUMP of Igoumenitsa (elaborated simultaneously to SUMPORT Project), other development projects underway in the territory of RUTH, its local characteristics (economic activities, geomorphologic and environmental aspects, domestic and touristic flows, etc.) and the opinions of local stakeholders (Igoumenitsa Port Authority, logistic & touristic operators, associations of citizens, etc.)

Valenciaport Foundation will develop a specific SUMP for the Port of Valencia, with a focus on designing a general strategy to promote a sustainable and safe path of both workers and cruise passengers in the Port of Valencia. Moreover, the SUMP will continue the previous approach of promoting the use of bike for cruise and ferry passengers, but also workers and daily users.

With these plans, we will be able to increase cities’ attractiveness fostering intermodal transport networks and alternatives to motorized vehicles.

SUMPORT PROJECT

SUMPORT aims to increase the planning capacities on sustainable mobility of port cities through training activities and exchange of experience.

Apart from the similar challenges that EU cities face, MED cities having ports are challenged with even more complex issues, needing a long-term mobility planning approach, integrating both city- and port-originated transport flows, in order to achieve a sustainable urban mobility.

The main objective is to increase the planning capacities on sustainable mobility of port cities through training activities and exchange of experiences.

The principal outputs of the project are: (a) Conducting trainings for MED port city officials in drafting SUMPs, also benefiting from MED port cities already having them (b) Drafting SUMPs in two MED port cities and updating one already existing (c) Implementing pilot actions and small-scale investments for sustainable mobility in six MED port cities (d) Implementing an e-learning platform for transferring project’s results.

RELEVANCE

Cities having ports face some extra problems adding a greater degree of complexity within the urban mobility. This project attempts to improve the planning capacities of the cities in order to face this issue in better conditions.
