DESCRIPTION

The document describes the action plan for university campuses located in urban areas. It is a strategic guide with a sequence of steps that planners are encouraged to follow when elaborating their Sustainable University Mobility Plans (sUmps).

University campuses in MED areas suffer from traffic congestion caused by private cars and the low use of public transport. Including student mobility through Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) will entail greater coordination among the campus and the overarching city mobility strategy.

The document includes a comprehensive methodology to simplify the sustainable mobility measures that

Mobility Planners of Universities (MPUs) should adopt when planning mobility of campuses located inside urban areas. MPUs are identified as coordinators and facilitators towards other stakeholders for managing and planning the main strategical lines of the University Sustainable Mobility Plans.

RELEVANCE

The Action plan provides a methodological guide for local authorities to elaborate Sustainable University Mobility Plans (SUMPs) in accordance with the general strategy of the city in sustainable mobility.

It is a support tool for the effective implementation of the action plan.

It helps to improve the capacity of decision makers in sustainable mobility planning on the University Campus of the Mediterranean and to guide them in deciding the possible actions and the steps to be followed to achieve the objectives, takes into account the problems that may arise and the actors who should be involved.

It includes a catalog of standard measures and takes into account the particular circumstances of each university.

It includes a model for selecting measures based on needs and provides an example of a standard roadmap for universities and an example of communication.
