The Port of Limassol (Cyprus), under the EU-funded ARSINOE project, launched a PPI tender to procure an AI-driven Early Warning System (EWS) for climate adaptation. This case demonstrates how innovation procurement can enhance port resilience against heatwaves, storms, and rising sea levels while complying with Cyprus’s public procurement laws.

Challenges addressed
  • Climate threats disrupting port operations (heatwaves, storms, flooding).
  • Lack of real-time monitoring for extreme weather.
  • Need for ISO-compliant, adaptive tech beyond traditional solutions.
Main objectives
  • Deploy an AI-powered EWS with IoT sensors.
  • Ensure seamless integration with port management systems.
  • Achieve 100% uptime during climate emergencies.
  • Set a PPI benchmark for Mediterranean ports
