Short Bio

Meinolf Spiekermann is a senior urban development and local governance expert. He works at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GIZ (GmbH). Spiekermann led the German contribution to the “Rehabilitation of the Old City of Aleppo” (2001 – 2008) in Syria. He has been managing several projects in urban and regional development issues in Africa and also lecturing at German universities. Right now, he is director of GIZ’s CoMun program, strengthening municipalities of Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia for local and national development.
